Americans are going to elect a new president on 3 November 2020. Every voter votes on issues country is facing. These issues determine the elections. Every election since 18th century is being fought on some key issues. Let’s discuss some of the key the issues of this election.
- Covid-19: No one in the starting of this year have thought that this pandemic will shake the world’s health and economy. It has impacted every country. And for the elections in the United States, this topic will dominate the election and its outcome. More than 220,000 people has been died in the United States because of this pandemic. Also, unemployment is at the highest point in US since great depression. Let people decide how the current government fought with this disease. The result will be the referendum on the government efforts over the last 8 months.
- Economy: Americans consider economy as a key issue, if it is not performing well. With the lockdown imposed in the country, the small businesses were closed and more than 23 million Americans lost their job and unemployment rate reached a peak of 14.7 per cent.
- Racial Tensions: The killing of George Floyd has led to the birth of Black Lives Matter across the country. Voters will vote on the attitude of the government to solve issues like this as it is in the interest of social security of Americans.
- Healthcare: This is also one of the key issues of this election. This US supreme court will start hearing a case after the election on the repealing on Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Whether people have or do not have health insurance but Obamacare is likely to play a big role on the Election Day. During the COVID-19 crisis, health care has become a critical issue for voters.
The winning of presidential elections depends a lot on these key issues and how these will be addressed by the government.
